Dr. James St. Clair is not only committed to clinical excellence, but he is passionate about creating a fun, caring environment that will help all patients feel loved and encouraged to be their best. Dr. James is a native West Texan, graduating as salutatorian from Morton High School in 1989. Having attended both Texas Tech University and McMurry University, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Dr. James’ Doctor of Dental Surgery degree was awarded from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 1997. He graduated with honors, completing his orthodontic residency at the University of Texas-Houston Dental Branch, where he earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, as well as a Master of Science degree in 1999.

Dr. James’ research on orthodontic enamel bonding received the Scientific Table Clinic award at the Star of the South Dental Meeting in Houston, Texas. He also received the Wick Alexander research award for his master’s thesis research project. This is the top research award bestowed by the University of Texas orthodontic department.

Dr. James is an active member of several national professional organizations including the American Association of Orthodontists, Southwest Society of Orthodontists, and the American Dental Association. He has served on several professional committees and offices including the New Member Development Committee of the Southwest Society of Orthodontists, and has served all offices of the South Plains District Dental Society, including as president from 2006 to 2007. His peers recognized him with the "Texas Super Dentist" award in 2004 and from 2006 to 2012, published in the November issue each year of Texas Monthly magazine.

Dr. James loves to teach. Since 2003, he has been teaching graduate orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics as associate clinical professor at the University of Texas Dental School in Houston. He also enjoys educating elementary students in Lubbock and the surrounding area schools about the importance of dental hygiene.

Dr. James is passionate about serving people. He not only serves people in the office with clinical excellence and a tender touch, but outside of the office in his church, community involvement with the Texas Mission of Mercy, local missions work, and coaching girls basketball.

Dr. James and his family came to Lubbock in the summer of 1999 to join the family practice. He and his wife, Shanna, have been married for over 20 years and are the proud parents of three beautiful daughters, Madeleine, Emily, and Abigail. When he’s not in the office, Dr. James is crazy about spending time with his family. He can often be found with them at fine arts events, watching his children play sports, or even camping or at the lake with his family.
